WHAT IS ELASMODIVER?

Not just a huge collection of Shark Pictures: Elasmodiver.com contains images of sharks, skates, rays, and a few chimaera's from around the world. Elasmodiver began as a simple web based shark field guide to help divers find the best places to encounter the different species of sharks and rays that live in shallow water but it has slowly evolved into a much larger project containing information on all aspects of shark diving and shark photography.

There are now more than 10,000 shark pictures  and sections on shark evolution, biology, and conservation. There is a large library of reviewed shark books, a constantly updated shark taxonomy page, a monster list of shark links, and deeper in the site there are numerous articles and stories about shark encounters. Elasmodiver is now so difficult to check for updates, that new information and pictures are listed on an Elasmodiver Updates Page that can be accessed here:

Commercial Licensing

All of the shark and ray images on Elasmodiver are copyright protected. There are NO royalty free images on Elasmodiver.

Andy Murch's shark pictures have been reproduced in hundreds of magazines, books, and scientific journals around the world. His photographs have also been used to illustrate marine life displays in countless public aquariums and zoos.

Image files are available in most requested formats from RAW files to 32 bit TIFFs. If you are interested in licensing one or more of the listed images for commercial purposes please email Elasmodiver with a brief description of how the image(s) will be used and the expected size of the print run. No project is considered too small but a nominal fee is ALWAYS assigned regardless of whether usage is for commercial, non-profit, scientific illustration, or charitable purposes.

Email Elasmodiver to request pricing or further information.

Using the Shark Picture Database

The Shark Pictures Database contains a long list of shark pictures that are available as commercial files or as fine quality archival prints. The database has links to thousands of copyrighted pictures of sharks, rays, skates, and chimaeras (ghost sharks).

The shark species are listed alphabetically by their scientific name and by their most widely recognized English common names including some synonyms. There are also some special categories listed by subject to make searching the database easier.

Please quote the shark or ray species name and the image number (e.g. Great White Shark 032) when placing an order or requesting further information.

The BC Marine Life Index

Although the BC Marine Life Index contains some pictures of sharks and skates it covers a much broader selection of aquatic life from crustaceans and mollusks, to fish, marine mammals, corals and sponges. The life inhabiting the shoreline of British Columbia is second to none in health, color, diversity, size, and abundance. The BC Marine Life Index is well worth a few minutes of your time.
